HONEYDEW (WAX CONTENT) TESTING


HONEYDEW (WAX CONTENT) TESTING:
PROCEDURES:
STEP 1: TAKE ABOUT 5 GMS OF FIBRES AND PASS IT THROUGH A TRASH ANALYZER
STEP 2: TAKE 1 GM OF OPENED COTTON SAMPLE (FROM TRASH ANALYZER) BY MEANS OF A SENSITIVE ELECTRONIC BALANCE
STEP 3: PUT THE COTTON SAMPLE ON A TEST TUBE CONTAINING ABOUT 40 ML OF BOILED WATER.
STEP 4: HEAT THE TEST TUBE ON A BURNER FOR ABOUT 15 MINUTES
STEP 5: PUT ABOUT 15ML OF SOLUTION FROM THE IST TEST TUBE TO ANOTHER TEST TUBE AND ADD 1ML OF BENEDICT SOLUTION TO IT. NOTE THE COLOUR IN THE TEST TUBE TO DETERMINE THE HONEY DEW (WAX CONTENT) IN THE MATERIAL
STEP 6: THE AMOUNT OF WAX CONTENT IN THE MATERIAL CAN BE DETERMINED BY THE FOLLOWING TABLE:
